Frequently asked questions
Answers about PCOS (PMOS) nutrition, virtual dietitian care, insurance, therapy and nurse practitioner services at Nest & Nurture Health, a Toronto-based virtual clinic led by Trista Chan, RD.
Getting started
Who is Trista Chan?
Trista Chan (RD, MHSc) is a Toronto PCOS dietitian and the founder of Nest & Nurture Health. She focuses on PCOS (PMOS), fertility, endometriosis, diabetes, gut health and metabolic health, with weight-neutral, trauma-informed care. She leads a team of dietitians, therapists and a nurse practitioner.
Do I need a referral?
No referral needed. Whether you've been diagnosed or just feel like something is off, you can book a free 15-minute call to talk it through.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes. All our appointments are virtual, so you can get 1:1 care from home.
Which provinces do you serve?
Our dietitians see clients in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Therapy and nurse practitioner services are available to Ontario residents.
What happens at my first dietitian appointment?
Your dietitian reviews your health history, symptoms, labs, lifestyle and food preferences, then works with you to set goals. You leave with a personalized nutrition plan that's adjusted as you go.
How do I know which dietitian is right for me?
All our dietitians support hormonal, gut and metabolic health. You can book with any dietitian licensed in your province, or book a free 15-minute meet and greet with Trista and she'll match you with the right person.
What's the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?
Registered Dietitians (RDs) are regulated healthcare professionals with university training and a licence to provide medical nutrition therapy. In Ontario, "nutritionist" isn't a protected title, so anyone can use it. Every dietitian on our team is an RD.
Cost & insurance
Do you take insurance?
Our dietitian services aren't covered by OHIP, but most extended health benefit plans and health spending accounts cover registered dietitian visits. You pay for each session and we give you a receipt to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
How much does a dietitian cost?
Our 1:1 dietitian programs are paid in monthly instalments starting at $185, with no large upfront payment. Most extended health benefit plans cover registered dietitian services. See our dietitian programs.
How does payment work?
Programs are paid in monthly instalments, starting from your first appointment, so you never pay the full amount upfront. Quebec clients pay after each session. Full payment and cancellation policies are in your consent form.
What we help with
Do you only work with PCOS?
No. PCOS (PMOS) is our specialty, but our dietitians also support fertility and trying to conceive, endometriosis, prediabetes, type 2 and gestational diabetes, gut health and IBS, metabolic health, PMDD, perimenopause and disordered eating recovery. Many of these overlap, so we look at the whole picture, not just one diagnosis. See everything we treat.
What's the difference between PCOS and PMOS?
They're the same condition. In 2026, PCOS was renamed PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) to better reflect that it affects hormones and metabolism, not just the ovaries.
How is PCOS diagnosed?
PCOS (PMOS) is usually diagnosed when someone has two of three signs: irregular or missed periods, signs of higher androgens (like acne, excess hair growth or high levels on blood work), and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound, after other causes are ruled out. Our nurse practitioner can help with lab work and testing for Ontario clients.
Can you help with PCOS and weight?
Yes, with a different approach. We focus on what drives PCOS symptoms, like blood sugar, insulin resistance, hunger and energy, rather than strict diets. Many clients see changes in their labs, cycles and how they feel, without restriction.
Can I work with a dietitian if I'm on a GLP-1 like Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro?
Absolutely, and it's one of the best times to have nutrition support. GLP-1 medications can lower appetite so much that it's hard to get enough protein, fibre and nutrients, and side effects like nausea or constipation are common. Our dietitians help you eat well on less, protect your muscle and energy, manage side effects, and build habits that last whether you stay on the medication or come off it. No judgment, just support that works alongside your prescriber.
Can a dietitian help with endometriosis?
Yes. While nutrition isn't a cure, it can help manage inflammation, bloating, digestive symptoms and energy alongside your medical care. Our dietitians build anti-inflammatory, non-restrictive plans that fit your life and the foods you love.
Do you work with fertility and trying to conceive?
Yes. Our dietitians support you before conception, through pregnancy and postpartum, focusing on cycle health, ovulation, blood sugar and the nutrients that matter most. We also work alongside your fertility clinic or doctor.
Can you help with diabetes or prediabetes?
Yes. Our team includes a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), and we support prediabetes, type 2 and gestational diabetes with practical, non-restrictive blood sugar strategies, without cutting out the foods you grew up with.
Do you have dietitians who understand my culture and food?
Yes. Our care is culturally inclusive, so your plan is built around the foods, traditions and family meals you actually eat, not a one-size-fits-all diet. Sessions are offered in English, and Binta Balde also offers sessions in French and Fulani.
Our approach & team
Are you a non-diet dietitian?
Yes. We take a weight-neutral, trauma-informed approach. That means no strict diets or food rules. Instead, we focus on improving your symptoms, labs, energy and relationship with food.
Will I get a meal plan?
Yes. Your dietitian creates a personalized plan after your initial assessment, based on your goals, schedule and the foods you love, and adjusts it with you over time. It's flexible guidance, not a rigid diet.
What results can I expect?
Success looks different for everyone, so we define it together at your first appointment. Goals often include better blood work, calmer digestion, more regular cycles, steadier energy, fewer symptoms or more confidence around food. We track your progress and adjust your care as you go.
Can a therapist help with emotional eating or body image?
Yes. Our therapists support emotional eating, body image, stress, anxiety and the emotional side of living with hormonal and chronic conditions, using approaches like CBT, DBT and mindfulness. Therapy is available to Ontario residents.
Can a nurse practitioner help with PCOS or perimenopause?
Yes. Our nurse practitioner provides diagnostics, lab work, hormone testing and medication management for PCOS, perimenopause, menopause, thyroid and other hormone concerns. NP care is available to Ontario residents and works alongside your dietitian.
Do you work with my other healthcare providers?
Yes. With your consent, we can coordinate with your doctor, specialist or fertility clinic, so everyone on your care team is on the same page.
